To help families invest in their children from birth, we built Acorns Early Invest—the easy, flexible way to boost your child’s financial future. As of 2024, Acorns Early Invest customers have invested over $600,000,000 in their children!
Acorns Early Invest is a UGMA/UTMA custodial account, exclusively available on the Acorns Gold subscription plan.
UGMA/UTMA stands for Uniform Gift/Transfer to Minors Account. You, the account holder, are the account custodian, and the child is the beneficiary.
Once the account is open, it operates similarly to an Acorns Invest account. You can easily invest in a mix of different funds called exchange-traded funds (ETFs), but instead of investing for yourself, you're investing on behalf of the child or children in your life.
More about Acorns Early Invest:
- As an Acorns Gold subscriber, you can open an Acorns Early Invest account for any child under 18 years old with a valid social security number. The child does not need to be your child.
- The child can access the funds in their Acorns Early Invest account, and transfer them to an Acorns Invest account, when they reach their Age of Transfer.
- Friends and family can contribute to their Acorns Early Invest account too thanks to Acorns Early Gifts!
- Because Acorns Early Invest is a UTMA/UGMA and not a 529, the funds can be used for anything that benefits the child, outside of a higher education.
- UTMA/UGMAs come with potential tax benefits. Consult your tax professional to learn more.
- Access Acorns Early Invest right from your Acorns app
It's easy to set up an Acorns Early Invest account! Once you set it up, you'll get access to a number of benefits, including:
- Investment account for kids with a 1% match, up to $7,000/year for investments held for at least 4 years
- Automated recurring investments
- Ability for other people to contribute gifts
- Flexibility in how the funds are used to benefit the child
- Family financial educational content
