You can set up direct deposit to your Acorns Checking account from the app or manually. Direct deposit is a way for funds to be electronically transferred into your checking account, instead of using a paper check. It's often used by employers to pay their employees.

You can learn more about direct deposit here.

Setting up your direct deposit automatically

You can set up direct deposit right from your Acorns Checking account by connecting directly to your payroll provider.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your Acorns account and tap or click on "Checking"
  2. Tap or click on the gear icon in the top right corner to access your settings
  3. Select "Set up direct deposit" and confirm your selection by tapping on "Set up direct deposit"
  4. From here, you'll continue with our partner Pinwheel to connect to your employer/payroll provider and set up your direct deposit to your Acorns Checking account, without having to leave the app.

Setting up direct deposit through your employer

If your employer/payroll provider doesn't show up on the search list with our partner Pinwheel, there are two other options you have to set up direct deposit. You can learn more about our partner Pinwheel here

First, you can set up direct deposit manually from your Acorns Checking account — you'll enter your paycheck information in a direct deposit form that you can then submit to your HR or payroll department.

Here's how to get the direct deposit form from the app:

  1. Log in to your Acorns account and tap "Checking"
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to access your settings
  3. Select "Set up direct deposit" and tap “Set up direct deposit” again
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions
  5. When Pinwheel pops up, tap on the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner to exit
  6. You will be asked, "Are you sure you want to exit?" Tap "Return to Acorns"
  7. Tap "Set up manually" and then enter your paycheck information. You'll be able to download the completed form and/or email it to yourself.

We recommend completing the steps above through the Acorns app.

Submit the completed form to your HR or payroll department to set up your direct deposit into your Acorns Checking account. Please note, it can take 1-2 payroll cycles for changes to take effect, so make sure to follow up with your HR or payroll department to check on the progress of your request.

Alternatively, you can set a direct deposit up with your HR or payroll department. You will need to share your Acorns Checking account info with them.

  1. Your name: Please provide your full legal name on file with your Acorns Checking account
  2. Account type: If you’re asked to choose between savings and checking, please choose checking
  3. Your account number and routing number for your Acorns Checking account. See the instructions below to find your account and routing number.
  4. The Acorns Checking bank name. You can find the name of the bank on the back of your card. Alternatively, if you don’t have your card, use the following information.
    1. Provide the bank name nbkc for a Mighty Oak Card account and any Acorns Checking accounts opened after August 2022.
    2. Provide the bank name Lincoln Savings Bank if you opened your Acorns Checking account before August 2022.
