What is a Prospectus?

A prospectus is a legal document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which provides information about an investment. The SEC requires a prospectus for each investment available to the public (stocks, bonds, securities, etc.), so that prospective investors may make an informed decision.
