Can I link a savings account as my Primary Checking account?

While it is possible to fund your account with a savings account, we generally recommend using a checking account.

Federal regulation limits the withdrawals from a savings account to six transactions per month. If you reach this limit with any automatic features, like automatic Round-Ups®,  could lead to a service charge from your bank. Acorns isn't liable for any fees charged by your bank if you decide to use a savings account as your primary checking account.

Here's how to link an account as your primary checking account:

From your Acorns app:

  1. After logging in to your account, tap the profile icon in the upper left corner of the screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Linked Accounts"
  4. Tap "Change Primary Checking" at the bottom of the screen
  5. You then have 2 options:
    1. Type the name of your bank in the search bar, or
    2. Tap “Add your bank manually.” Then enter your Routing Number and Account Number in the fields and tap "Link Account" at the bottom of the screen.

From acorns.com:

  1. Click on "Profile & Settings" in the bottom left corner of the screen
  2. Click on "Linked Accounts"
  3. Click on "Change primary" towards the top of the screen
  4. You then have 2 options:
    1. Type the name of your bank in the search bar, or
    2. Select “Link Manually”. You’ll then need to enter your Routing Number and Account Number in the fields and tap "'Link Account"' at the bottom of the screen.
