To manage the ongoing issue of fraud, the Social Security Administration (SSA) introduced an electronic Consent Based Social Security Number Verification (eCBSV) Service. This service enables authorized entities to check if a person’s Social Security number (SSN) and other personal details correspond to the data present in Social Security records.

Permitted entities such as Acorns, are invited to become registered members. Then with your consent, we can use the eCBSV service, to check the name and date of birth associated with a social security number.

More information can be found here: https://www.ssa.gov/dataexchange/eCBSV/
