All financial institutions must obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person opening an account, which includes your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Further, this enables us to properly issue you a tax form at the end of each year.

You’re only able to open one Acorns account per Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). *Please note, this does not apply to beneficiaries included in Acorns Early accounts. When beneficiaries reach the age of transfer they will be able to open their own accounts with the same SSN used for Acorns Early.

If you are having issues with your SSN during the registration process, please review your records to see if you created an account with Acorns in the past. If so, rather than opening a new Acorns account, you will need to reopen the existing account. If you can recall the email address associated with the pre-existing Acorns account (it might be an older email address), go ahead and log in (and reset the password if needed) and follow the prompt to reopen your account. For further details, review this support article on how to reopen your account

If you are confident that you have not created an account with Acorns in the past, and are having issues with your SSN during registration, please contact our support team.

Please note, while you can use an ITIN to open an Acorns Invest or Later account, you may or may not be able to use an ITIN to open an Acorns Checking account. Please contact our Support team if you have any questions.
